ISLAMABAD: The government has clarified the status of the notification regarding the appointment of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), assuring that the procedure is already underway and leaving no room for rumors.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif dismissed ongoing speculation as baseless and premature, explaining that the issuance process for the official notification has formally started. He noted that the prime minister’s imminent return to Pakistan will allow the government to finalize and release the document at the appropriate moment.
Asif emphasized that the matter is straightforward and does not warrant conjecture, urging individuals and media platforms to refrain from fueling unnecessary controversy.
In a separate statement, the Defence Minister addressed developments in Gaza, accusing the Israeli military of breaching the ceasefire agreement. In a post on social platform X, he cautioned that Muslim countries that had supported the truce may reconsider their stance if such violations persist.
Asif highlighted that at least 352 Palestinians — many of them children — have lost their lives since the enforcement of the ceasefire. He pointed out that the Sharm el-Sheikh pact was aimed at fostering stability and easing tensions in the region, but Israel’s repeated transgressions cast doubt on its willingness to honor the terms.
He further appealed to the global community, particularly Western nations, to intensify diplomatic pressure on Israel to adhere to international legal standards. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he noted, has already voiced strong concerns over the matter.
