RAWALPINDI: A local court in Rawalpindi on Monday sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Khaula Chaudhry to jail on judicial remand in connection with a case involving an allegedly anti-state post on social media.
Officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented Chaudhry before Duty Judge Abdul Sattar, seeking a five-day physical remand to continue their investigation. The court, however, turned down the request.
During the proceedings, FIA Assistant Director Zeeshan appeared in court and submitted the agency’s plea for custody. After examining the record and hearing arguments, the judge rejected the FIA’s request and ordered that the accused be sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand instead.
Khaula Chaudhry was taken into custody earlier this week for allegedly posting content deemed critical of state institutions. The FIA has registered a case under relevant cybercrime and anti-state provisions, and further investigation is underway.
