LAHORE: Heavy fog once again disrupted travel plans on Monday as authorities shut down a major portion of the M-5 Motorway—from the Multan Shershah Interchange up to Zahir Pir—due to dangerously low visibility.
A Motorway Police spokesperson said visibility along the affected segment had dropped to the point where allowing traffic to continue posed a serious risk. The shutdown, officials stressed, has been enforced purely for the safety of motorists and their vehicles.
With fog blanketing several routes, Motorway Police urged drivers to strictly maintain lane discipline, noting that sudden lane changes are a leading cause of accidents in low-visibility conditions. Commuters have also been advised to limit travel at night and plan road journeys during daylight hours, ideally between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM when visibility tends to improve.
Motorists using highways during the fog spell are encouraged to rely on fog lights, keep a safe distance from vehicles ahead, avoid speeding, and skip any non-essential travel until weather conditions stabilize.
The spokesperson added that patrol teams are actively deployed along the motorway to assist stranded or confused drivers. Travelers needing support or real-time updates can reach the Motorway Police at their helpline: 130.
