BAGH (AJK): Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has said that the recent political changes in the region are aimed at improving governance and strengthening public service, rather than merely replacing individuals in office.
Speaking to a large crowd at the Pilot High School Ground in Bagh, Rathore stressed that resolving longstanding issues faced by AJK’s residents remains the government’s top priority. He assured the public that his administration would fully honour the commitments made with the Action Committee.
The AJK premier noted that the government engaged with the committee immediately after cabinet approval of public demands. “Concerns and complaints are shared within our own community, and Pakistan has consistently addressed our issues with sincerity,” he remarked.
Reaffirming Kashmiris’ deep bond with Pakistan, he said, “We are Pakistanis, and Pakistan belongs to us,” adding that this relationship is rooted in shared faith and history.
During the event, Rathore announced a number of development initiatives, including increasing the upper age limit for government job applicants to 41 years, granting Bagh the status of a “Big City,” upgrading Bagh Hospital into a Teaching Hospital, and setting up a dedicated university campus for male students.
He said he recently presented public demands to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during their meeting. Praising the Pakistan Army, Rathore said that the leadership of Field Marshal General Asim Munir had enhanced Pakistan’s standing on the global stage.
The AJK prime minister also appreciated PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s strong advocacy for Kashmir at international forums, saying his slogan “Rai Shumari Sab Pay Bari” resonated with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Rathore added that the PPP government had brought a “positive political shift” to AJK despite assuming power in challenging circumstances. He highlighted key cabinet decisions, noting that efforts were underway to obtain scheduled bank status for AJK Bank and accelerate the rollout of health cards.
He asserted that the current government was committed to tackling issues inherited from the previous setup. According to him, the gap between the public and their representatives has significantly narrowed, and essential commodities such as electricity and flour are now within reach of ordinary citizens.
Calling the gathering a demonstration of public confidence in the PPP, he concluded, “Our time may be short, but we will strive to deliver as much as we can.”
