CRIME AND COURTS
SHIKARPUR: A fierce exchange of fire between police and bandits in Shikarpur on Tuesday left nine suspected dacoits dead, while four police officials — including two DSPs — were wounded in the clash.
The encounter unfolded in the Manchar Sheikh locality, according to Shikarpur SSP. DSP Garhi Yasin, Zahoor Soomro, received injuries during the operation, while DSP City Pars Bakrani was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Police say the operation is still underway, with a heavy deployment of personnel surrounding the area. Armoured vehicles have been positioned at key points to secure the perimeter and assist officers involved in the raid.
Law enforcement officials added that drones are being used to track the movement of remaining suspects and assess the situation from above. One injured suspect has been taken into custody alive. Meanwhile, four officers were hurt during the firefight.
Authorities have identified the deceased bandits as Awais Sheikh, Yasin Sheikh, Asif Sheikh, Kararo Sheikh, Shehzado Sheikh, Shahmur Sheikh, Imdad Sheikh and Sajid Sheikh. A sweep of the area continues to ensure no accomplices escape.
