NATIONAL NEWS
PESHAWAR: Residents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have voiced strong approval of the federal government’s decision to repatriate Afghan migrants living in Pakistan without legal documentation, describing the move as both timely and crucial for national stability.
People interviewed in various parts of the province said the government’s stance is lawful and justified, noting that Afghan nationals staying illegally should return to their homeland through an organised process. They pointed out that authorities have made arrangements to ensure a respectful departure by setting up designated camps where families are being provided with basic services before crossing the border.
Speaking to local reporters, citizens remarked that Pakistan has sheltered Afghan refugees for over 40 years despite its own economic constraints. They said that while Pakistan consistently extended support and hospitality, Afghan leadership at times adopted an unfriendly posture, including cultivating ties with rival states.
Many residents insisted that undocumented migrants should not be granted additional time to stay, arguing that illegal Afghan settlers have influenced local trade, employment opportunities, and the overall social fabric of KP.
Some locals also complained about unregistered Afghan-run businesses and alleged involvement in criminal activity, saying such issues have contributed to growing security concerns in the region.
They stressed that Pakistan is simply following international norms, as countries worldwide enforce deportation of foreign nationals who overstay or reside without legal permission. In the same spirit, they said, Afghans without valid documents should also return home in a dignified manner.
KP residents concluded that the repatriation policy is vital for safeguarding local interests and restoring order, expressing confidence that the federal government’s measures are aligned with Pakistan’s long-term economic and security goals.
