LAHORE: Popular television actor Zahid Ahmed has strongly criticized the reality show Lazawal Ishq, describing it as a project that promotes indecency and carries what he called a “hidden agenda” against Pakistani social values.
Speaking during a recent podcast appearance, Zahid voiced serious concerns about the show’s concept, which has already stirred widespread debate on social media. He said he could never endorse content that, in his view, undermines Pakistan’s cultural and moral fabric.
Zahid shared that his reservations began as soon as he heard about the show’s launch. He even attempted to learn more about the production team but was unable to trace who was behind the project.
Although actress Ayesha Omar is hosting Lazawal Ishq, Zahid said he refrained from questioning her involvement, explaining that he does not know her personally and does not approve of the program’s premise.
The actor went on to claim that the producers chose to release the show exclusively on YouTube rather than on television to avoid PEMRA’s regulatory oversight. By featuring Pakistani hosts and participants, Zahid alleged, the creators tried to present the show as a local production, even though, according to him, its content clashes with national ethics and portrays Pakistan negatively on the global stage.
Expressing satisfaction that Lazawal Ishq has faced a wave of criticism, Zahid said he was glad the public has largely rejected the show’s content. The first episode premiered on September 29 on YouTube, where viewers quickly accused it of crossing moral boundaries.
In defense, Ayesha Omar insisted that Lazawal Ishq is not a dating show, as many have assumed. However, backlash intensified after teasers and promotional clips spread across social media, with users demanding that the program be banned.
Meanwhile, PEMRA issued a clarification, stating that since the series is streamed online, it falls outside the authority’s jurisdiction and therefore cannot be legally restricted under existing broadcasting regulations.
