WASHINGTON: The United States on Thursday pressed the UN Security Council to rally behind its draft resolution endorsing President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace initiative, cautioning that failure to act could lead to serious repercussions for Palestinians.
A spokesperson for the US mission to the UN said in a statement that efforts to create division within the Council—at a time when negotiations on the resolution are still underway—could result in “severe, real, and entirely preventable consequences for the people of Gaza.”
Calling the current truce “extremely fragile,” the spokesperson urged Security Council members to support the resolution and help advance efforts to stabilize the situation.
“This is a pivotal opportunity to chart a course toward lasting peace in the Middle East,” the statement added.
