WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday asserted that his administration played a key role in preventing a fresh escalation between Pakistan and India, claiming he helped stop a conflict that was “about to restart” between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Speaking at the Oval Office during a joint press conference with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman—who is in the United States for the first time in seven years—Trump highlighted what he described as his track record in conflict prevention.
“I’ve stopped eight wars… I’ve actually stopped eight wars,” the president said, adding that one of those interventions involved defusing rising tensions in South Asia.
