KARACHI: Popular TikTok personality Samiya Hijab has sparked fresh debate after saying that she left Pakistan because of the country’s judgmental attitude toward her lifestyle and fashion choices.
In a recently circulated video, Samiya voiced her frustration, claiming that her outfits are becoming “shorter day by day” not by personal choice, but because of “the mindset of the Pakistani nation.” She said that constant criticism from both the public and authorities had pushed her to move abroad.
“It’s not my fault if my clothes have changed,” she said in the clip. “It’s the fault of the people — their narrow-minded thinking made it impossible for me to live peacefully.”
The influencer went on to accuse the government and society of sharing the same judgmental mentality. “The government and the people are no different; they both think alike,” she remarked.
Drawing comparisons to fellow content creator Rajab Butt, who also left Pakistan earlier this year, Samiya said she understood his decision to move abroad. “They treated Rajab Butt the same way. He had to escape too,” she said, adding that both of them are now living away from home and constantly “moving from one country to another.”
Samiya revealed that she is currently residing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where she continues to share updates on Instagram. However, she has made her TikTok account private amid ongoing backlash.
While the social media star confirmed her stay in Dubai, she stopped short of saying whether her relocation is temporary or permanent. Many of her followers believe that increasing online criticism and social pressure may have influenced her decision to leave Pakistan.
