LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Friday saw the introduction of a resolution supporting the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, with PML-N lawmaker Hina Pervaiz Butt presenting the motion.

The resolution affirms the House’s full endorsement of the amendment, calling it an important step toward promoting transparency and strengthening state institutions. It stresses the need to grant constitutional safeguards to local governments so they cannot be dissolved or weakened at will.

Lawmakers also welcomed the proposal to create a Constitutional Court, describing it as a move that would bolster judicial neutrality and independence.

According to the text, the 27th Amendment aims to enhance provincial autonomy, preserve the federation’s balance of power and empower the Election Commission by ensuring greater independence and effectiveness.

The resolution notes that the amendment represents an evolutionary step in institutional reform rather than a revolutionary shift. It also acknowledges the prime minister’s role in advancing the initiative and steering the constitutional reform process.

Concluding, the House reiterated its commitment to democratic governance, asserting that the amendment would help reinforce accountability, transparency, and long-term institutional stability across all tiers of government.
