RAWALPINDI – Pakistani troops on Tuesday gave a strong and immediate response to unprovoked firing from the Afghan Taliban and members of the Fitna al-Khawarij group targeting border posts in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Security officials confirmed that a Taliban commander was killed and multiple tank positions were destroyed within an hour after the Pakistan Army retaliated with heavy fire, inflicting significant losses on the attackers. Several Taliban posts across the border were reportedly set ablaze during the exchange.
According to field reports, four tank positions and an operational tank were destroyed in under an hour, forcing the Taliban and allied fighters to abandon their positions and flee. Bodies of several militants were later found at the damaged posts.
In a separate strike, Pakistani troops precisely targeted and destroyed a moving Taliban tank in the Kurram sector, demonstrating professional accuracy and coordination. Another Taliban post, located in the Nargasar area of Khost, was also eliminated, killing multiple fighters from both groups.
Witnesses said that amid the chaos, the Afghan Taliban raised a white flag at one of their border posts before retreating from the area.
The clash follows a wave of cross-border aggression by Afghan forces on the nights of October 11 and 12, reportedly in retaliation for the October 9 Kabul explosions. The latest tensions have once again underlined the growing instability along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, which has seen repeated skirmishes in recent weeks.
