MUZAFFARABAD: The picturesque Neelum Valley in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has received its first winter rain and snowfall, marking the official arrival of the cold season as temperatures across the region plunged sharply.

According to the Meteorological Department, more spells of rain and snowfall are expected in the upper parts of the valley during the coming week, likely intensifying the winter chill.

While the snow has transformed the valley into a scenic wonderland and begun attracting tourists eager to enjoy its frosty charm, local residents are still grappling with the aftermath of the August 14 cloudburst in Nallah Jagran. Many flood-affected areas remain only partially restored.

Key infrastructure, including link bridges and connecting roads to popular spots such as Kundal Shahi Waterfall and Kutton Jagran, has yet to be reconstructed. The delay has left over 25,000 people facing transportation problems and restricted access to essential supplies and healthcare.

Locals have urged the AJK government and relevant authorities to expedite rehabilitation efforts, particularly the rebuilding of bridges and roads, before heavy snowfall further isolates the region.

Despite these challenges, the first winter showers and snowfall have once again highlighted Neelum Valley’s breathtaking natural beauty — turning it into a magnetic destination for visitors from across Pakistan seeking a glimpse of its snow-covered landscapes.
