ISLAMABAD: A crucial meeting of the federal cabinet is set to take place today (Saturday) to resolve outstanding disagreements over the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment. The session will be chaired by the Prime Minister, who will join via video link from Baku, while all cabinet members have been directed to be physically present in Islamabad.
Coalition partners—including MQM-P, PML-Q, and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party—have conveyed their support for the amendment package, sources said.
The Ministry of Law has completed the initial draft of the amendment, which is expected to be introduced in the Senate later today. According to officials, most issues have already been settled, though consultations among political parties are still underway regarding a few unresolved points.
Following objections raised by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the government has assured that the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award will remain untouched in the amendment. Once the PPP provides formal approval, its recommendations will be incorporated into the finalized draft.
