Heavy Rains Submerge Gaza Tent Camps, Deepening Misery for Displaced Families

GAZA (Pakestine): Torrential rainfall has inundated overcrowded tent camps in Gaza, worsening the already dire living conditions of displaced Palestinians, international media reported on Friday.

The United Nations has raised fresh concerns, saying that ongoing Israeli restrictions on humanitarian aid continue to leave hundreds of thousands without sturdy shelters or essential winter protection.

One displaced resident described how families watched their few remaining belongings—mattresses, clothing and basic supplies—become soaked as water poured into their tents. He said nearly twenty people had spent hours trying to clear the accumulated water, pleading for stronger tents that could offer some defense against the cold season.

Gaza’s civil defence department confirmed that the hardest-hit areas were in the northern part of the Strip, where many families recently returned after the temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Flooding was also reported in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza.

The agency appealed to the world to intervene, stressing that countless homes have been destroyed over the course of Israel’s two-year offensive on the territory.

“With winter setting in, the urgent provision of shelters, caravans and tents is critical to easing the hardship faced by displaced families,” the statement read.
