SRINAGAR: The Gulmarg Gondola—one of Asia’s highest and longest cable car systems—has completed a major upgrade, allowing it to operate at its maximum capacity of more than 9,000 visitors per day.

According to Syed Qamar Sajad, Managing Director of the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation, maintenance and technical teams worked continuously to finish the overhaul before winter. Key components, including the hydraulic and brake systems, have been completely refurbished for the first time in several years.

Sajad stated that the gondola is now fully safe and performing at optimal levels.

The Gondola Café has also been redesigned to improve visitor convenience, offering essential food items at affordable rates to help tourists manage rising market prices.

He added that preparations are in progress to install a drag lift at the site, with the facility expected to be functional by the end of November.

Currently, the gondola sees an average of about 2,000 visitors daily. Officials anticipate a significant increase in footfall as the upgraded services begin to attract more tourists.

Sajad expressed satisfaction with the work completed so far but emphasized the need for continuous improvement. He noted that the objective is to ensure a consistently high-quality experience for every visitor.
