ISLAMABAD: Authorities in the federal capital have launched a large-scale operation against Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), sealing the group’s offices, mosques, and seminaries while registering new cases against its leaders and workers.

According to officials from the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration, the action comes in response to recent violent demonstrations by the TLP. Several party members, including senior leaders, have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing crackdown.

The district administration confirmed that the central office of TLP situated near Athal Chowk on Murree Road and another branch in Madina Town, Simly Dam Road, Bhara Kahu have been sealed. Similarly, Jamia Mosque and Madrassa Anwar-e-Madina in Nai Abadi Bhara Kahu were also shut down.

TLP’s union council-level offices in Shahpur, Bhara Kahu, and Simly Dam Road, along with the Mumtaz Qadri Mosque and Jamia Mosque Satrah Mile on Murree Road, were also closed. Offices and madrassas in UC-14 and Seri Chowk, Phulgran were similarly sealed.

The Inspector General (IG) Islamabad has directed all Station House Officers (SHOs) to ensure arrests of those involved in violent protests. Detentions have been reported from Bhara Kahu, Tarnol, and Sangjani areas.

Meanwhile, in Lahore, religious scholars, members of civil society, and the business community have*rejected TLP’s nationwide strike call, condemning the group’s recent violent acts.

In video messages and press statements, community leaders termed the protests irresponsible and harmful, saying such demonstrations disrupt public life and hurt the economy.

One business leader remarked that TLP’s demands and methods were unjustified, adding that “arson, road blockades, and violent tactics are acts against the public interest.”

Atif Ikram Sheikh, a prominent business representative, stated that strikes cause huge financial losses and that traders would not support any shutdown calls.

The Punjab government has also decided to take strict action against extremist and disruptive elements involved in recent unrest. Officials confirmed that new FIRs have been lodged against TLP workers as part of a sustained legal campaign.
