ISLAMABAD: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has reiterated that Pakistan will deliver a firm and unequivocal response to any act of aggression, recalling the country’s reaction during the May standoff and stressing complete reliance on Allah.

Speaking informally to reporters during a luncheon hosted by Jordan’s King Abdullah II at the President’s House, the Field Marshal said Pakistan’s reaction to any future provocation would be no different from the decisive stance taken earlier this year.

He noted that Pakistan’s success during its confrontation with India was granted by Allah, adding that while the country prefers peace, it will not hesitate to defend itself. “Pakistan seeks harmony, but any effort to impose conflict will be met with a strong response, as per our faith and obligations,” he remarked.

Drawing on Islamic history, the Field Marshal said that faith can turn even the smallest effort into a powerful force, referencing the Battle of Uhud and reciting related Quranic verses to underline his point.

He also held a detailed conversation with President Asif Ali Zardari during the gathering.

The luncheon was attended by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Aseefa Bhutto, as well as the British High Commissioner and the US Ambassador.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan and Jordan reaffirmed their intention to deepen strategic and economic cooperation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met King Abdullah II at the Prime Minister’s House, where the two leaders discussed expanding collaboration in trade, investment, health, technology, education and defence.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional developments and ongoing peace efforts. The two leaders agreed to strengthen coordination among the eight Arab–Islamic nations working with the United States on the Gaza ceasefire and the Gaza Peace Plan signed in Sharm el-Sheikh.
