BRUSSELS: European Union foreign ministers are set to review a proposal next week that would place the EU at the forefront of training thousands of Palestinian police officers who could eventually be stationed in Gaza.
According to a briefing prepared by the EU’s diplomatic service ahead of the November 20 ministerial meeting, officials have outlined several ways the bloc could support the implementation of a 20-point Gaza strategy put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump.
One of the key options detailed in the document is for the EU’s existing police assistance mission to assume responsibility for training around 3,000 Gaza-based police personnel currently employed by the Palestinian Authority. The plan also envisions expanding this effort over time to include the entire 13,000-strong Palestinian police force.
