ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen as its candidate for the office of Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), marking a significant political development within the region’s government.
Party insiders confirmed that the decision received formal approval during a high-level meeting chaired by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The session was attended by senior members of the party’s AJK chapter, where extensive discussions took place over potential candidates.
Sources revealed that four names were initially considered for the top post — Chaudhry Yaseen, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, and Sardar Yaqub Khan. After consultations with central and regional leaders, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari approved Yaseen’s name, indicating a broad consensus within the party’s leadership.
An official announcement from the PPP is expected later tonight, according to sources. Meanwhile, political activity in the AJK Legislative Assembly is intensifying, with reports suggesting that a no-confidence motion may be presented within the next 24 hours, setting the stage for a change in government.
