RIYADH: Pakistan enjoyed a dominant day in the men’s javelin final at the Islamic Solidarity Games on Wednesday, with national icon Arshad Nadeem successfully defending his title and teammate Muhammad Yasir capturing the silver medal at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Stadium.
Nadeem, who has become the face of Pakistani athletics in recent years, set the tone early. His opening throw of 75.44 metres immediately pushed him to the front of the pack. He then delivered the standout moment of the competition on his second try, unleashing an impressive 83.05m throw that no other competitor came close to matching.
He remained consistent throughout, following up with an 82.48m effort in his third attempt. His remaining throws—77.06m, a foul, and 77.98m—kept him comfortably ahead as he coasted to another gold medal.
The rest of the field struggled to match Pakistan’s top two. No athlete other than Nadeem crossed the 80-metre mark, and Yasir’s best throw of 76.04m, recorded on his final attempt, was enough to secure the silver.
Nigeria’s Samuel Adams Kure rounded off the podium, taking bronze with a 76.01m throw registered in his fifth attempt. He was unable to reclaim the second position in his final effort, managing 75.84m.
The double podium finish marks another high point for Pakistan’s javelin contingent on the international stage.
