MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is set to hold a vote today (Monday) on the no-confidence motion filed against Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq.

Three political parties—the PTI, the Muslim Conference (MC), and the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party (JKPP)—have announced that they will not take sides and will remain neutral during the process.

The Assembly secretariat has already circulated the day’s agenda, confirming that the motion will be taken up in the session.

In the meantime, PPP’s candidate for the premiership, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, has strengthened his position by gaining the support of two more lawmakers from the forward bloc. Education Minister Diwan Chughtai publicly aligned himself with the PPP after a meeting with PPP Women’s Wing President Faryal Talpur. Another cabinet member, Professor Taqdees Gillani—who occupies a reserved seat for women—has also withdrawn her backing for Anwarul Haq.

With these new defections, the PPP’s support in the Assembly has risen to 38 members.

Despite the shifting numbers, sources close to Prime Minister Anwarul Haq say he plans to contest the no-confidence vote and will appear before the Assembly to face the motion.
