US Pushes for Early Deployment of International Force in Gaza

WASHINGTON: The United States is working toward the possible deployment of an international stabilization force in the Gaza Strip early next year, potentially as soon as January, according to two US officials. The proposed force would operate under United Nations authorization, though key questions remain unresolved — including how the Palestinian group Hamas would be disarmed.

US officials clarified that the planned International Stabilization Force (ISF) would not be tasked with engaging Hamas in combat. They added that a number of countries have already shown willingness to take part. Discussions are ongoing regarding the force’s size, makeup, accommodation arrangements, training requirements and rules governing its operations.

As part of these preparations, the US Central Command is set to host an international conference in Doha on December 16 to coordinate planning for the Gaza stabilization mission. Officials said representatives from more than 25 countries are expected to attend.

The meeting will focus on the proposed command framework and other operational aspects of the force, marking a key step in shaping the international role in post-conflict stabilization efforts in Gaza.
