WEATHER UPDATE
MUZAFFARABAD: A biting cold wave has pushed temperatures below freezing across the upper reaches of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and several surrounding regions, intensifying the chill already felt across the country.
In many parts of AJK, the dry cold has become more severe, making conditions increasingly challenging for residents of mountainous areas. Neelum Valley remained among the coldest spots, where temperatures plunged to –6°C.
Similar conditions were reported in the highlands of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Swat, including Mingora and nearby elevated zones, continues to experience a sharp drop in temperatures. Night-time readings fell to –1°C in Kalam Valley and –2°C in Malam Jabba.
Mansehra district is also in the grip of harsh winter weather. Naran recorded an extreme low of –10°C, with waterfalls and streams in and around the area turning to ice.
District officials confirmed that traffic movement has been halted in Naran due to dense fog and freezing conditions. Travel beyond Paldaran toward Kaghan has been restricted entirely.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and snowfall for Swat starting next week, signaling more wintry weather ahead.
