ISLAMABAD: Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto was honored with Pakistan’s highest civilian award, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, at a distinguished ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday.
The presentation ceremony, attended by the country’s top political and military leadership, marked a notable milestone in the relationship between the two nations. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were present alongside the Senate Chairman, the National Assembly Speaker and senior commanders of the armed forces.
President Zardari bestowed the award on the Indonesian leader in recognition of the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Indonesia. Before the ceremony, both leaders held an extensive meeting where they reviewed their multi-decade partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in diverse fields. They expressed shared views on deep-rooted goodwill and the importance of further advancing peace, stability and mutual prosperity.
During the interaction, President Zardari conveyed his condolences over the devastating floods and landslides in Sumatra, offering prayers for the victims and wishing recovery to the affected families. The gesture reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with Indonesia in times of humanitarian need.
The two sides also underlined the significance of interfaith harmony and tolerance, agreeing to steer future cooperation toward inclusive development. They welcomed the recent growth in bilateral trade and stressed the need to maintain a healthy trade balance while expanding collaboration across various sectors.
Both leaders hailed the Pakistan-Indonesia Joint Trade Committee as a productive forum for connecting businesses from the two countries. They also agreed to explore deeper cooperation in information technology, agriculture, tourism, energy and other emerging sectors. Joint initiatives on climate resilience, disaster preparedness and sustainable development were recognised as priority areas.
Meanwhile, Field Marshal Asim Munir, President Subianto Hold Security Talks in a separate engagement, President Subianto met Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir to discuss regional security dynamics. Both sides reaffirmed their resolve to broaden defence ties, including training exchanges and potential joint production ventures. They also reiterated their shared stance against Islamophobia and emphasized the importance of promoting understanding and coexistence globally.
President Zardari briefed the visiting leader on the situation in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir during an expanded meeting attended by ministers, senior officials and top military figures from both nations.
The visit concluded with a state banquet hosted at Aiwan-e-Sadr in honour of President Subianto, celebrating the deepening partnership between Pakistan and Indonesia.
