LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has sealed 71 commercial properties across the provincial capital for illegal commercial use and failure to pay commercialisation fees, officials said on Friday.
The crackdown was carried out by LDA’s Town Planning Wing across several key localities. During the operation, 12 structures were sealed in Gulberg, 30 in Allama Iqbal Town and the Subzazar Housing Scheme, 11 in Johar Town and another 18 in Township.
Among the sealed establishments were Lahore Garrison School, Foster Learning, NGS School, Subhani Academy, a diagnostic centre, Safari Hotel, various eateries, offices, salons and other businesses.
LDA teams also demolished a boundary wall in Valencia Town and removed illegal construction on PIA Road. One building in Wapda Town and the community centre in the Punjab University Housing Scheme were sealed for violating LDA bylaws. Two properties on Shan Bhatti Road were partially demolished on similar grounds. Illegal signboards and hoardings across LDA-controlled areas were also taken down.
The enforcement drive was supervised by Chief Town Planner I Assad-uz-Zaman and Chief Town Planner II Azhar Ali, with support from police personnel and heavy machinery.
Officials said multiple notices had been issued to property owners prior to the sealing and demolition actions. LDA Director General Tahir Farooq has instructed teams to maintain strict, ongoing operations against all forms of bylaw violations, encroachments, unauthorized commercial activity and non-payment of commercialisation fees across the city.
