PESHAWAR: Seven people were killed and two others injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the office of an Aman Lashkar commander in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police officials confirmed.
The attack targeted the office of Qari Jalil, who leads a government-supported peace militia in the area. According to police sources, the assailants arrived without warning and unleashed gunfire, causing chaos and fear in the neighbourhood.
Rescue teams shifted the deceased and injured to the District Headquarters Hospital. The victims who lost their lives in the assault were identified as Osama, Sufyan, Muhammad Niaz, Muhammad Sufyan, Wali, Noman, and Master.
Two others — Kamran and Muhammad — sustained injuries and are currently under treatment at the hospital.
Police say they have yet to determine the motive behind the shooting. A search operation has been launched, and the area has been cordoned off as investigators try to track down the attackers. Officials noted that the incident underscores the persistent security challenges faced by anti-militancy groups operating in the region.
