KARACHI: Veteran actress Seemi Raheel has taken aim at Pakistan’s entertainment award shows, describing them as superficial events driven by favouritism rather than genuine recognition of talent.
Speaking during an interview on a private TV channel, Raheel openly questioned the integrity and purpose of these ceremonies, saying they function more like publicity events than authentic award platforms.
She pointed out that nearly every television network now hosts its own award show, yet the selection process, in her view, has little to do with merit. Instead, she alleged that personal preferences and bias often dictate who walks away with a trophy.
Raheel also cast doubt on the credibility of the voting systems used by such shows, arguing that the idea of transparent public voting is unrealistic. She remarked that when even national elections struggle to ensure fair voting, expecting award shows to maintain transparency is unreasonable.
