MOSCOW: Russia has extended strong support to the Pakistan-Afghanistan ceasefire agreement, praising both nations for choosing dialogue over confrontation after a series of deadly border clashes.

The truce, mediated by Qatar and Turkiye during high-level talks in Doha, is being seen as a major breakthrough aimed at restoring calm and fostering regional stability.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova lauded the agreement as a positive development. “We welcome the mutual ceasefire along the Afghan-Pakistani border, achieved with the mediation of Qatar and Turkiye,” she said.

Zakharova noted that both Islamabad and Kabul’s willingness to resolve disputes through negotiation rather than conflict “lays the foundation for lasting peace between two friendly nations and contributes significantly to regional security.”

She urged both countries to deepen collaboration, particularly in counterterrorism efforts, to ensure that the truce evolves into sustainable peace and mutual trust.

Meanwhile, in Beijing, China also expressed its appreciation for the Doha-brokered ceasefire. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun said his country “welcomes the ceasefire agreement reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan” and supports continued engagement between the two sides.

Guo emphasized that China sees regional peace and stability as a shared objective and encouraged Islamabad and Kabul to maintain dialogue aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace. He added that Beijing supports diplomatic initiatives that help reduce tensions and promote cooperation among neighboring states.

The coordinated diplomatic endorsements from **Russia, China, Qatar, and Turkiye underscore growing international consensus on the need for political dialogue to resolve the long-standing Pakistan-Afghanistan border tensions.
